Faith and Film Series Continues!
The final summer movie night will be held on Thursday, August 21 beginning at 6:00 PM with a potluck dinner followed by a movie at 6:30 PM. A short discussion will be held after the movie. The movie for August has been changed to August Rush (rescheduled from June). August Rush is a fairy-tale-like story of a young, orphaned music prodigy who hears music everywhere and believes unwaveringly that he will some day reunite with his parents. (Rate: PG for theme and some language) Note: John referenced this movie in a sermon on April 20.

Summer 2008 Preaching Tackles the Headline News
It was the famous twentieth century theologian Karl Barth who once remarked that the good preacher preaches with “the Bible in one hand and a copy of the New York Times in the other!” In the early American context, it was always the intent of our Founding Fathers that the actions of society would be reflected upon by the pulpits of the day! In today’s overly timid fear of stumbling into a dialogue with society for fear of trespassing upon a thoroughly modern understanding of the separation of church and state, the church has lost it’s calling to be in dialogue with society. It was never intended to be a silencing of the reflection upon the culture by the church!
To that end, it is our hope to re-engage the New York Times aspect to Karl Barth’s calling. This summer in the months of July and August come to hear what daily topics hitting the newsstands will grace our pulpit. Then, come join us for engaging dialogue over lemonade and tea afterward, as the dialogue can continue outside on the side lawn, remembering, that in our congregational heritage, we believe in a “free pulpit!” Which means; you don’t have to agree with what the preacher says! Now, won’t that be a time for some interesting discussions?!
